As part of National Volunteers Week, Birchfield Big Local held a celebratory and presentation event on 8 June 2018.
The event also had a dedication to one of our volunteers and participants, Donald Williams, who sadly passed away recently. Several people spoke about his dedication and input at Birchfield Big Local, particularly his involvement with The Elders Group, Secret Garden and Livingstone Road Allotments.
Presentations of certificates were made to our core volunteers that have contributed to English Conversation Classes, Women’s Group, Elders Group, IT Sessions and Reception/Administration.
Invited speakers included Baljeet Singh Ghataora (Chair of Birchfield Big Local Partnership Group) and Chris Church (Big Local representative) who thanked volunteers and spoke about the national Big Local initiative respectively.
Andrew Simons, Development Worker, said; “This now annual event is a chance for us to give thanks and celebrate the essential contribution that volunteers make to Birchfield Big Local and the local community. We were also able to share our memories of Donald Williams, one of our regular volunteers, who sadly passed away recently. Donald will be greatly missed by everyone.”
The Volunteer Co-ordinator, Tippa Naphtali, thanked everyone involved for helping to put this event together at short notice.
