Thanks to a grant from the ERDF Welcome Back Fund, Birchfield Big Local were able to organise a community event at Church Vale on Saturday 26th March. The short section of Robert Road in front of the shops was closed for the afternoon to create a car free space for children and families. There were arts and crafts for children, a bicycle for making smoothies, advice on healthy eating with healthy puddings, a pop-up job shop, and stalls with clothes, jewellery, cakes and samosas and more.  Author, Yvonne Brissett had signed copies of her latest novel – “The Sweetest Sound” – and live music was provided by Kate Luxmoore, Reuben Reynolds and Griff Wadkin. For once, the weather was perfect, and it was great to see the Vale alive once more as a family friendly community space. A huge thanks to all who came and contributed in so many ways including Tarmac who provided barriers for the road closure.

Welcome Back was a Spring Event encouraging togetherness within the Community after spending so much time apart due to the effects of the Pandemic. It was a time to socialise and appreciate the outdoors with this event including many exciting and interactive stalls. It was great to see the community of Birchfield coming together and enjoying the outdoors once again! We at Birchfield Big Local are thankful for everyone who was able to attend, including those with stalls, those who aided with the set-up, and all of our amazing volunteers!
