An amazing two evenings at Birchfield Light Night with lantern parades, light installations and whimsical projections! This was all paired with musical performances, an LED hula hoop artist, hot chocolate and more.

The Light Night was a culmination of a series of workshops with children, families, and older residents, to create willow lanterns and other art works including giant domino lanterns at the Westering’s and weaving using fluorescent materials at the Secret Garden to complement the Birchfield mural which was enhanced using UV paints.

We would like to thank all those who were able to attend the Birchfield Light Night and the workshops in the build up to it. A huge thanks to all involved – especially artists Scylla Magda and Sophie Handy and the technical team from Crafting Community (Bobby Bird, Jay Bond, Dave); the musicians including Xhosa Cole and Mark Hamilton, Kate Luxmoore and Lekan Babalola, Ben Dwyer and his Jazz trio, Robyn Bird and Chloe; Ammo Talwar, Simon Redgrave, Taneisha Deans and all the team at Punch Records/Gallery 37; Mehnaz Afzal and all the volunteers from Birchfield Big Local who together with the Punch volunteers helped steward the event so effectively and provide hot chocolate at the Secret Garden. Finally, and most importantly thanks to all the children, families and elders who participated in the workshops and the residents and visitors that joined us on two memorable nights in Birchfield.
