Grammy award winning jazz musician and percussionist, Lekan Babalola, will be leading a series of Cajon sessions at Grosvenor Road Studios starting Monday 12th June, 4.30 – 5.45pm. Lekan was awarded his first Grammy in 2006 for his work on the album In the heart of the moon by legendary Malian guitarist, Ali Farka Toure. His second Grammy Award was in 2009 for a collaboration with American jazz singer Cassandra Wilson on her album Loverly.

The Cajon is a box-shaped percussion instrument, usually made from plywood. Originally from Peru, the Cajon is a very versatile instrument and can be used to produce a variety of different sounds.

The workshops are for young people aged 10 years and above – cost £2.50 per session – though the first session is free!
